(Dear Know-It-All)
Sam needs some serious advice when a new staff member competes for newspaper bylines--and for her crush's attention. Cherry Valley is abuzz when a new girl comes to town from the UK. Kate Bigley has dark hair, bright blue eyes, and an English accent--and she has dreams of being a reporter. Mr. Trigg is thrilled when Kate joins the Cherry Valley Voice staff, but Sam is less excited to have some competition. Especially when Kate is paired up with Michael Lawrence for the next big cover story. What if Sam's crush gets a crush on someone else?

No talking / Andrew Clements ; illustrations by Mark Elliott. - New York ; London ; Toronto ; Sydney : Simon & Schuster for Young Readers, 2009. - [10], 146 stron ; 22 cm.
It’s boys vs. girls when the noisiest, most talkative, and most competitive fifth graders in history challenge one another to see who can go longer without talking. Teachers and school administrators are in an uproar, until an innovative teacher sees how the kids’ experiment can provide a terrific and unique lesson in communication. In No Talking, Andrew Clements portrays a battle of wills between some spunky kids and a creative teacher with the perfect pitch for elementary school life that made Frindle an instant classic.

The janitor's boy / Andrew Clements. - First edition. - New York ; London ; Toronto ; Sydney ; Singapore : Simon & Schuster for Young Readers, 2000. - 140 stron ; 22 cm.
The book tells the story of a school student, Jack Rankin, whose father is the janitor of his school. Jack is made fun of by his friends for this, and he hates his father because of it. Lashing out, he puts a massive quantity of bubble gum up under his desk so that his father will have to clean it off. Unfortunately, he is caught and ends up having to clean it up himself under the supervision of his father's janitor. During this, he learns that it's very hard work to be a janitor, and learns of his father's dark past. He and his father become friends. As the book closes, a student shouts "You gonna be a janitor when you grow up too?!" and Jack says "Yes," smiles up at his father's face, and says, "yes I do."
